Sunday was some work at home, a site walk-thru for Novice Schola, then Scribal Workshop, the home for Concentus practice. Went out to dinner with Concentus members, then home to call my mom.

The walk-thru went quite well, and now I need to start contacting teachers and building the tracks. At scribal I did a bit of spinning of my new stuff from Rhinebeck, and did consults with various scribes on calligraphy, design, etc. They're all doing great work, and Phred's really been gung ho on this -- two scrolls are now complete for Yule! It'll be nice not to be rushed on them before the event -- also, she's pretty busy in November, so this gives both of us a big break, as well as being less stressful for our new scribes. We got a few calls regarding the fire at Bethesda during the workshop. Pagan filled us in on some things at Concentus, and then of course there's more on that in [personal profile] baronessmartha's blog. Concentus practice went well -- we reviewed some older pieces and worked on a new piece. Dinner was good and happy, although I had a little trouble following some of the references when the conversation turned to Dune - I've only seen the movie and the mini-series, not read the books. Phone call to mom was okay, with good parts and rougher parts.

Monday I did a lot of work with changing from summer to winter clothing, and sorted out some things for giveaway/throwaway. [personal profile] fitzw put up the two shelves I painted last week, on the inside studio wall. Polyurethaning happened.
Renoferret did more polyurethaning of the baseboards, trim, etc. Did some correspondence and a phone call regarding the fire. Did a few loads of laundry, trying to get all the summer things clean and put away. [personal profile] fitzw and I were both having some back issues by nightfall. Got email from mom, and we've worked out the rougher bits from the phone call. Most of the time I enjoy speaking with her, but I always have to be careful of how much information I give her, because she tries to be 'helpful'. She lives alone and doesn't get a lot of visits from my brothers (all in Calif.), so I know the calls are important for her mental/emotional well-being, but it's probably a good thing we live 3,000 miles apart. We both have pretty strong personalities, so we clash on occasion. With her health being more fragile these days, it's important for her to stay as positive as possible. Unfortunately I can't be everything she might like me to be, especially in support of her, because I have to maintain my own health, etc., and that means doing my own thing.

Tuesday, more cleaning, more correspondence. Took a nap mid-day, and [personal profile] fitzw kindly worked on my shoulders and back a bit. I owe him some work, and a haircut too. Tonight he calls Z, after dinner. I think I'll work on turning the blue and green Shetland batts into something resembling rovings so it's a bit more orderly in appearance.

Dinner time! Pasta and red sauce :)

When is Novice Schola? I don't see it on the schedule.

February 24.

There's a placeholder for it online, but that's it. The autocrats are working on the description tonight.

Student, teacher, or both?

Be happy to see you there in any case :)

Your Excellency, As long as the Nova Scola doesn't conflict with:1. Birka, 2. Northern Lights, or 3. The Spring thingie in Malagentia (a wonderful little event up there, that is pure pleasure to be at)

I'd love to teach something. I can't do first class of the day, but after that I should be fine. You can have me for...

Embroidery...1. Basics, 2. Stumpwork (Not beginner), 3. tips for speed. 4. Whitework/Drawn fabric

Scribal...1. Calligraphy beginners tips, 2. Illumination beginners tips

Jewelry...1. Knotted style necklaces (like pearl necklaces) I could probably do a chain work class, or wire wrapped loops but the numbers would be severely limited (less than 5, and about $10-20 fee for tools and supplies)

If you'd like any of these, or something that you'd like to see taught, let me know at bobd2 AT tellink DOT net

I know we don't conflict with Birka (end of Jan), but don't know about the others, so I guess we'll have to see when those are. It would be wonderful to have you come and teach -- I'll have to make a note of all the class possibilities you listed and give it some thought.

Thanks!

can I raise my hand for the jewlery and/or calligraphy? Not that you and E aren't wonderful, but sometimes different views are helpful for those of us finally getting brave enough to wander into new waters.

Fire? BaronessMartha is locked. I just hope all are safe and healthy, and there are no long lasting bad effects. If I can help let me know.

I cannot be at Novice Schola as it is the NoiseMaker's Schola is happening in Bakhail that weekend, and I will be working it.

Understand entirely on the Mom thing. Draining but required.

We had a regional practice this past Sunday at our usual fighter practice site. A fire/smoke alarm went off in the basement, which fortunately one of our folks heard. Fire department was alerted, the guinea pig in the daycare center was rescued and then checked out by Aelfiga (she's a vet tech). Nobody was hurt, but there's smoke throughout the building from the fire and from venting for more air. Fortunately the practice folks had some doors open as well, or the fire might have taken longer to notice (open doors drew some of the smoke sideways). Fire was started by unattended candle in the sanctuary. If it was the vigil candle, I'm really surprised by that, as there'd have to be a malfunction in the setup for it. Pipe organ, new grand piano, and large stained glass window were all destroyed. They were also uninsured, or at least the window was, because the church couldn't afford the insurance for it. The building as a whole is insured, so that will help with some of the losses. Other churches are offering help with stuff. We'll find out what part(s) we'll be playing as time goes on.

Yes, I figured you would probably be at Noisemakers. I wasn't too happy about conflicting with it, but our original investiture was on Feb. 22, so we try to stay close to that date (except the winter our Yule got snowed out -- we moved our spring event to March that year). I'm hoping I don't lose my dance teacher and musicians to your event, but we'll see what happens.

Oh golly. Sounds like it's a lucky thing there was a fight practice there, to catch it before damage got worse. I'm relieved no one was hurt.

Hope the congregation can locate a stable home and get restoration done without too much pain, and hope you get a new fight practice home soon.

the scadians (one of them a member of the church) are the very reason the church did not burn to the ground. There were no lives lost, even the day care guinea pig was okay.

We (the church) has had many offers of space to share. The outpourning of love and support is amazing. We will rebuild. We have already started.
