Update

Guess I should do another update. Friends and family have been coming over to help spiff up the farm, get some projects moving forward, etc. Been busy since last week, but Saturday and Sunday were extra busy!

The two old foot bridges that have been falling apart for a while got put in the burn barrel, along with some other old/broken stuff. Much broken metal stuff has been collected to be taken and sold for scrap, including the old wood-burning evaporator (broken arch and door). More to come over the year, I expect.

We oved the part of the print shop that was in the sugarhouse into the barn -- drier there, and makes space for the celebration of life that will be held this coming Saturday. Thankfully had a little help briefly on Saturday, and more on Sunday - a family friend, a relative and a friend from kung fu came up and moved the heaviest stuff into the new shop area.

Monday was relatively relaxed, at least compared to working for hours and hours moving stuff.

Yesterday some friends came over and we raked the side lawn and down under the trees that line the drive up to the house -- that took a few hours! (Two from kung fu, and the girlfriend of one of them). They worked like lions, and we were even able to take a short break for a bit of dandelion wine. Then we burned that off finishing the raking and giving them a tour of the farm.

Today is weapons day at kung fu. One of the rakers is teaching today... We are all thinking that classes will be interesting today :D

I've lost a few pounds over the past few days. I'm kind of hoping I don't have to keep up this mad pace in order to keep losing weight... stretching is an imperative. Painkillers and hot water are also useful. I'd like to eventually can the pills though...

The sugarhouse is shaping up well. We expect quite a few folks to show up to celebrate and remember William's life on Saturday. 84 years is a lot to celebrate!

Be well.

Busy!

Family is managing. Also, very busy!

In addition to all the regular farm stuff, there were some rather large hay deliveries this past week.

Next Saturday will be the celebration of William's life, which will be held at the sugarhouse. A fair number of folks are expected to drop in, so the planned move of the print shop will now be happening, to free up as much space as possible. SIL D has some folks coming in today to start cleaning, so we have to disassemble the type cabinets today, and at least move them into a truck.

We have some friends from the kung fu school should be coming up tomorrow to help with moving, and hopefully more during the week. I'm sure some would have been happy to come today, but this is already rather short notice. Still, the help is welcome whenever it's available!

Thank goodness for sunshine!

Today L and I also have to clear the space the shop will be moving to... I've worked on it now and again, but some things I couldn't do much about until I knew where stuff was getting moved to, so now we have a plan.

In the house, the upstairs bathroom is having some sort of plumbing problem. The only way to check on it will be to remove the bathtub. Apparently my MIL Marian has always wanted to move the bathroom, so we'll be taking this opportunity to do just that (into a larger room). The old bathroom will be removed and the wall between it and the living room as well. All good things, but of course will require much packing and moving of stuff.

There was some water damage to the downstairs living room, not just from the bathroom (to ceiling) but also the last rainstorm knocked a downspout loose and sent water against the house, so the wallpaper in there will be coming off soon. Also sometime this year, the wallpaper in the dining room will likely also come off. Marian would like lighter, less busy walls. AFAIK, the walls have always had wallpaper on them? So likely a skimcoat of mud will be needed before painting.

And, since it's been around 30 years since the last time, we'll eventually be working on getting estimates for re-insulating the house. BIL Ray and his partner Stewart should have some folks they can recommend for that. Work on the farm never stops, but I'm glad we don't have to do all of it!

Oh, and I have to remember to try on some of William's jeans, to see if they fit... not how I pictured adding to my wardrobe, *sigh* If they do fit, I expect he'd be amused. And maybe a little pleased -- not one to waste anything!

Family anecdote: Back in the day, William and Marian's vehicle had a front bench seat, and she'd sit next to him, with one of his arms around her. Then over time, there was a child between them. Then more recent vehicles had bucket seats. At some point she commented, remembering when they used to sit next to each other. His reply? "I didn't move." LOL

Okay, time to go to work!
