Election results have been surreal. The Shrub still has a few tricks up his sleeve, and the new crew, along with the rest of us, will have some hard work ahead of them if they're going to do anything truly useful to help this country. Vigilance of course continues, one of the responsibilities of being a citizen, I think. Still, overall, I'm kinda happy at the moment.

5 Nov

Celebrate each day
the successes of one's life.
Cherish victory.
But rest not on one's laurels;
Keep an eye to the future.

And speaking of surreal, we have the every day of doings around the farm, the day-after of elections (still awaiting final results on a few things), and anticipation of a lecture on hunting as medieval male bonding later this afternoon...

Voted!

We voted this morning. There were lots of people, at least some of them voting before going to work but plenty of others too. At 7:30 a.m. I was #89 to get my ballot rolled through into the collection box!

Yes, we have paper ballots. No, we don't have a scanner. The town talked about the electronic ballot machines at some point in the past and decided it was overkill I think. There are only around 1,700 in this town...

Lovely weather, and got to chat with N Garvin, who was manning the table for exceptions before we came home again.

Not that I'm greatly enthused about any of them, but the latest announcement of Gov. Sarah Palin (Alaska) as McCain's vice presidential running mate... ugh.

Anti-abortion, pro-Big Oil, and all gung ho for killing all the wolves in Alaska. And although I haven't done in-depth research, I expect she's anti any sort of equality for homosexuals.

Probably doesn't have much use for anyone not a "Christian" either. I put "Christian" in quotes because I know lots of perfectly great people who are Christians, but I don't have much use for the ones who try to put down people of other religions, often including Christians who don't worship and believe in exactly the same way as them. Adoption of or conversion to a religion should be by choice, and people who have made said choice shouldn't be looked down on for not being whatever the theoretical or actual majority may be.

*sigh*

Okay, not really something I want to get into, but my mom just asked how likely it was that electronic ballots can and/or will be messed with this November?

I know some of my friends on LJ are up on all this techie goodness, so I figured I could ask here and get some intelligent responses.

Thanks!
