Managed to plant the 4 echinacea plants that
islenskr kindly brought over last weekend, today. I'd decided to put them where I had plantd the echinacea seeds, so I had to weed the plot first.... and found 10 baby echinacea! Yay! So now I have 14, one of which looks like it will bloom this summer. I also put the feverfew that she brought there. The lemon balm, being of the mint family, I've put in a freshly weeded-out part of one of the raised beds, where it can happily take as much space as it would like.
Also planted one of the two potatoes that I'd forgotten about on the kitchen counter last month... they are rather spiky-looking... There is still one more to go, but as now 8 of the 9 original spuds has come up, I'll have to put it somewhere else. Yes, #8 came up this past weekend. More dirt and needles went onto them today. There is still one more load of dirt to go, but the shovel sort of just fell out of my left hand, which considering most of the lifting I'm doing is with that side right now, meant it was time to stop. The right side agrees. So, perhaps later in the day.
fitzw suggested putting the last potato spud where some of the strawberries aren't doing well, and that is very likely where it will go. There's a spot between the clothes lines that should be perfect.
The tomatoes are looking very spiff, the peas need picking, the chamomile are rather cute and spunky, the New Zealand spinach has doubled in size, and the side yard lettuce is bolting. If I have the time/energy this week, I'll harvest some basil for the winter, and maybe some of the sage as well -- take advantage of the 'lull' before the next bout of canning.
