Misc, Sturbridge Village
Jun. 23rd, 2007 10:29 pmGreenpa had an interesting little post, on how long it can take to get things -- anything -- going.
***
We picked strawberries this week, and I actually managed to make 4-1/2 pints of jam! The half will go in the fridge for immediate use. The others will be dated and stored on a shelf for later. Also made strawberry soup yesterday - it was surprisingly easy, and very tasty.

Today
fitzw went and worked on the farm, and I went with
ellid, Henna, Brigit, and Kalliera to Sturbridge Village, to browse the bookstore and look at the plants in the garden next to the bookstore (free!). A blustery day but sunny, and we got to see a wide variety of plants. Also, I discovered that I'd misremembered the name of one of my plants at home -- it's Meadow Rue, not Motherwort....
They have a dyer's garden section of course; the indigo had pods that were turning blue, and the woad was very large and heavy-laden with seeds -- easy to see why it's an invasive species in some states!
Picked up a book on weaving patterns at the bookstore, on sale even :) Also got a little chocolate (dark w/cranberries & almonds - yes, I suppose I could have made some, but I haven't been to Whole Foods recently, so no cranberries in the house :( ), some cream-filled caramels for
fitzw, and a pencil sharpener that looks like a spinning wheel -- it even has a 'drive belt' so when you turn the wheel the flyer moves. They had maple candy there, but we were all annoyed that it was from Vermont. Feh.

Tomorrow is Z' graduation. There's a little party at the house beforehand, so we'll be leaving late morning to get to Poughkeepsie. Hoping the weather will continue to hold!
