helwenWell, apparently No Impact Man, Colin Beavan in NYC, wrote about the Riot for Austerity/90% Reduction group. So, some folks may be checking it out, signing up to try things out, etc.
The Riot has closed to 150 members now, after only about two weeks, and those are the list members. Most of their partners and families (those who have them) bring the number of people in the group to about 500. That's a pretty significant number, and it'll be interesting to see if/by how much the number grows. Most of the members are in the U.S., but there are some Canadians and Australians as well. Might be someone from the U.K. as well, but I don't recall.
Some folks reading about it at No Impact Man's site have at first responded negatively, of course. That's to be expected really, given the percentage that people would be ideally cutting back. But the important things to remember are 1) It's over the period of a year, not all at once, and 2) There is no requirement to succeed, only try.
Honestly, if the majority of people trying this out only cut back by 50% (averaging all the different areas being tackled), that would be pretty amazing.

Meanwhile, I found that the first week was kind of tough for me on the electricity front. I'm sure it wasn't a huge amount, but I was definitely spending _more_ time online instead of less, because I was trying to work on my baseline figures, read all the email from the new list, plus doing the usual research and news reading stuff. Ugh. So, I've definitely been on less yesterday, and even less today.

The loom is threaded but not fully warped; have to wind it on, then wind some bobbins for the shuttles, and then I should be ready to rock and roll.
