May. 29th, 2007 03:47 pmForgot to mention that I planted the basils on Sunday...
Monday was a day of Remembering (Memorial Day), but apparently also a day of forgetting.. We remembered to display the flag, but forgot to stop at Home Depot, bring shelling pea seeds to the farm, or bring the tomatoes to
gwynt_y_storm and Jeni in Sunderland. sigh.
fitzw did many things around the farm, helping out his dad. I helped out some in the afternoon, when we went up on the hillside to pull the taps. Unfortunately it ended up being the section with the worst terrain, but better us than 82-year-old William! I only fell once and slipped a few other times, and we did manage to do the whole rough section. Yay!
Thankfully
fitzw worked on my shoulders and back last night and this morning, but I still needed to work out a few things. My right hip and knee were out, so I did some stretches and then went out to the backyard to do Tai Chi (24 form, Yang large-frame). First couple of times were definitely rough, third time was better. I'm still not used to not being able to go as low because of the knee. Fourth time had more fluidity. Fifth time I was having a little trouble focusing at the start, so I took a moment to be still, then did the form with my eyes closed.
It was a little rough at first, since we use our eyes to help find/keep balance, but eventually I was able to balance better by extending and fine-tuning my senses a bit. The 2 kicks and 'golden pheasant standing on one leg' were probably the most challenging for balance (the right leg is tricky even with my eyes open!). And I was able to get down to my normal position for 'snake creeps down, and did my best 'needle at the bottom of the sea' that time, without having to fiddle with my balance to get past the knee issues.
Then, since it seemed that I'd more or less sorted things out,
fitzw and I went for a walk. Ended up going over to Walgreens so I could get some allergy stuff, and I can't say the body was completely happy with the experience, but still much better than a few months ago, especially considering it's hotter now.
