Monday and Tuesday
May. 22nd, 2007 08:14 amMonday:
The rest of the tomatoes and companion marigolds are planted and mulched. We don't have enough stakes (need 3-4 of them per plant, ~6' long), but we'll work on that. The basil still needs to wait another week before they stay outdoors. The peppermint from
lady_jade_01 has been put in a large pot.
fitzw continues to work on the bed behind the studiolo/printshop (formerly the garage), and did some great work with the rain barrel (see his LJ for more detail). I helped a little with that, trying mostly to use body strength.
Did a bit more weaving (~8-10 in), moved books to first or third floor from the second floor.
fitzw moved a bookcase downstairs for me, and I'm slowly working on filling it with arts/crafts/sufficiency books that we'll want access to over the next year. Once he's finished the trim in the corner of the dining room area, I can paint the trim and then he can put a tall narrow bookcase there as well -- that'll have some history books for sure, and maybe some other stuff as well.
Walked to the grocery store yesterday too, so a good bit of exercise. Overdid use of the arm a little, so will try to lift lighter things today and/or make more trips with fewer things.
Tuesday:
masteralcuin will be over later this morning. In the meantime I'll be moving more stuff around up in the attic, making more space, etc.
No gardening today, have to work on embroidery, winding bobbins, and other indoor work. Although I will be outside this morning to hang up laundry :)

Date: 2007-05-22 05:26 pm (UTC)There is a frame, with 2x4s above the plants. Once a week, he literally ties up the longer branches, and thins out where needed. Just tie a string around the 2x4 and then around the plant. Tomatoes are pretty tough, we've never had cuts this way. You could use fabric or leftover pantyhose, I suppose. Assuming you know somebody who wears pantyhose, which I don't.
