Garden Stuff Mostly
Aug. 3rd, 2020 06:59 pmTomatoes harvested earlier today. Trimmed some leaves off of the Brussel sprouts, harvested some of the rutabaga, then went after the turnips.
I hadn't kept up with thinning those so they got pretty crazy. I harvested the few that were big enough, thinned them out a bunch and transplanted all of them to either side of the established bed. I'd cleared out the excess Borage on one side last week, plus most of the garlic, and on the other side the carrots never did well so there was already space there.
Found a Rosemary that I'd missed planting in the raised bed and decided to put it into a larger pot instead. Picked some Blueberries
I also cut some broccoli for dinner. Still not sure if it's worth growing or if I should just buy from the local farmers...
Lyle's been continuing to mow whenever possible -- we used some of the cuttings to bury all the Brussel sprout leaves in the compost.
Cabbage worms continue to be a bane, among other critters. There are, however, fewer of them now than there were this morning...also fewer Japanese beetles. Those things love the Pussy Willow bush and the Evening Primrose plants. I brought one of the traps over to a stand of Evening Primrose that was holding a convention and knocked most of them into the trap.
Oh! We did some work on the barn the day before yesterday -- not today though and tomorrow it'll be raining.
Also, mailed a couple of packages out -- part of sending things to their proper homes and making space in our home.
