Monarch Butterflies
Aug. 13th, 2019 10:17 amOne of my housemates has been doing Monarch rescue this summer. Sometimes they end up on stands of Milkweed that are too close to the road, and the road crews went through cutting back plants on the road verges.
She was able to relocate more mature ones directly, and raise some of the smaller ones indoors, bringing them fresh leaves. Total count as of today is 73, which is great!
In the grand scheme of things, that isn't a lot, but I know she was getting advice from other rescue people, so good to know that there are people out there trying to help life on Earth to keep going.
Let's take our victories where we may.
[EDIT] The 73 is just from this morning! She and the kids were going for a walk and spotted them in Milkweeds where the leaves were all stripped -- collected them and found homes for them around town.
So that's in addition to however many they raised from the cut patch of Milkweed down the road from us.
