Oh, we got the minivan back Wednesday. Quick action with the fire extinguisher saved it from any serious damage. Apparently the hose for the brake fluid failed in such a way that it put pressure on the caliper, which then failed. Anyway, as repairs go, it was relatively inexpensive. Still, it's probably a good thing we aren't going places much right now; time for more saving...

I kinda thought it might be that, or spray combustion from the brakeline. Might want to ask to have the brake cylinders checked as well.

The mechanic's theory was that the fire was from the brake fluid as well, which is why there was no apparent fire damage.

Having the brake cylinders checked sounds like a good plan -- we got the van back on Wednesday, though, so it will be a few days before we could take it in again for that check.
