[livejournal.com profile] bytchearse mentioned in a previous post that he preferred mil-spec backpacks (new Mollie system, etc.). Local army/navy stores might have them, but I also did a google search for "mil-spec backpack" and found www.patriotoutfitters.com and of course many other links as well.

He also recommended the Swiss Army multi-tool over other multi-tools, even though higher in price (a quality tool). Target _might_ have one with their Swiss Army stuff over in Sporting Goods, but I don't recall. Will check at a future date. Meantime, online you can get one at: www.swissknifeshop.com or other Swiss Army online dealers. Ingeside Mall used to have a store that carried them, but they're gone now (google search: "swiss army multi-tool"). They definitely aren't cheap, but there is more than one model. I would look carefully at them before picking one. Definitely an investment.

Gear updates

Sorry 'bout using your LJ bandwidth! Any further updates I'll post in mine :-D

My pack is the "G.I. CFP 90 Combat Field Pack" Google will give you several places to buy online. I got a black one since it shows dirt less.

Search "Victorinox Swisstool" and for more info. The one I have is running about $75 these days. Suffice it to say that I have worn out the factory belt sheath (after repairing it twice) and am about due to replace the aftermarket sheath I have on my belt now. Best feature: ALL tools lock in place!

OK, I'm leaving now :-)
