Rats! and house and NS/BB
Jan. 14th, 2007 11:04 pmSaturday was a recovery day, but I did manage to get some work done before I ran out of black-eyed peas... and got in a couple of walks, which was helpful in burning off negative energy/biochemicals. Today was a much better day. Got more peas and finished the rats -- 41 !
fitzw was able to put in one of the baseboards in the livingroom today, and yesterday he sealed more windows. I have also been thinking about how the walls on alternative architecture are usually thicker than modern ones. So I'm going to put some of my fabric that's up in the attic around the base of some of the walls in the living/dining room (one of the cooler rooms) and put nails in on the stairway wall. It's on the shadier side of the house, so once the nails are up I'm going to clip some layers of fabric together and hang them up on the wall. In medieval and renaissance times fabric was sometimes hung on the walls in this fashion, although in some pictures you can see that they nailed right through the fabric.
In one painting of some people having dinner, there were windows behind them and fabric had been nailed onto the wall to cover the bottom part of the windows, thus keeping any drafts off their backs. I did this at a Yule Feast many years ago, at the Camp Massasoit site. There was a fireplace on one side and windows on the other, so either you were roasting or freezing. We used duct tape rolled sticky side out and put fabric across the bottom parts of the windows, which helped to even out the temperature in the hall. Also looked nice :) And there's no reason that being sensible can't be fun and look good too.
K and I went over the NS schedule, got some emails from teachers today, and figured out a way to add another track with help from one of the event stewards, F. Planning on having the schedule up later this week!
