1. What is your SCA name? (You don't have to write the full name, just your first name if you want.)
Elwynne Rowenna of Wentworth. Please note the two n's in "Elwynne" and the two n's in "Rowenna". Nor am I Elaine....
2. What is your home kingdom?
East, in Bergental (was a shire when I joined, now a barony).
3. Have you ever lived in another kingdom? If so, where?
No.
4. Do you remember your first SCA event? When/what was it?
Yes, Bergental Yule Feast and Boar Hunt. Split site I believe, with the day part happening at Hampshire College in South Amherst and the night site being a church in Amherst. December, 1981. Yes, I've been in for a few years... but if you think _that's_ a long time, talk to my new apprentice,
gwynt_y_storm :D
5. Do you have any awards? (You don't have to list them if you don't want)
Bergental: Sable Bear (martial), Fountain (service), and Hourglass (A&S). Also was the A&S champion once.
Kingdom: AoA, Manche (A&S), Laurel, Silver Crescent (service).
Fun fact: ostensibly received my AoA for calligraphy and illumination, even though I was given the award at the event at which my first court docs were presented. Manche and Laurel are also in C&I, but by those times I'd done a bit more :D
6. Do you list them after your name in communications like e-mail?
When I think it's appropriate, i.e. recommending someone for an award, corresponding with the royalty, sometimes on the Manche list (depends on why I'm posting and to whom).
7. Do you have a device?
Device: Argent, a sea-cat contourny counter-ermine, tailed sable, and a bordure engrailed azure semy of roses argent.
Badge: Azure, a cross voided erminois, overall a griffin segreant argent, all within a bordure erminois.
And I have a few marks I use.
8. Do you use it? On what?
Device: on shield, banner, and the mini-shields we're starting to use as in-out thingies in camp at Pennsic.
Badge: not so much these days.
Other: silver rose on green, usually for my apprentices. The letter "E", with the middle horizontal stroke ending in a trumpet bell, usually for scrolls. And sometimes a bunny - scrolls mostly, but I'm thinking of putting one on the back of my shield. I was born in the year of the Hare, water element (black), so I'm thinking a Black Rabbit of Inlay could be fun.
9. Are you on all the kingdom/society lists available to you, or do you avoid them?
Some, not all. And I don't read everything on them. No time, especially for certain kinds of nonsense.
10. Do you keep your Pennsic/Estrella/Gulf Wars/etc. site tokens?
Yes.
11. Do you keep the favors you've been given by royalty/friends/SOs, etc.? Do you wear them all?
Yes I keep them. I wear the Pennsic queen's favor during Pennsic.
12. Do you call your friends by their SCA names even when you're not at an event?
Sometimes. Mostly it depends on what we're talking about, but recently I've been trying to call P by her real name, since we're doing more non-SCA stuff together now.
13. Do you go out to dinner in garb after an event?
Sometimes. Depends on the garb, what other people are wearing, and whether or not I came to the event in garb. That last is why what other people are wearing is one of my reasons -- if everyone but one person has a choice, I like to keep that person company :) And these days most of my clothing is quite comfortable and washable.
14. Do you have all kinds of garb, or do you generally stick to one period?
Lots of Norman, lots of transitional Burgundian, a little Italian Ren still, 1 Spanish (Isabella and Ice), 1 Viking (Thorsin and Svava, and Birka), some Persian (pretty and comfortable, great for camping too). Soon I'll have some 14th c clothing for Crossroads at Canterbury, probably with a French influence.
15. How many interests do you have within the SCA? What's your favorite?
Lots! And lots of favorites :) Fighting, C&I, pottery, weaving, clothing, gardening, research (that's a biggy), music, feast stuff, history. Those are all pretty up there for me. Archery's a bit lower, and siege too -- not enough time to do everything.
16. Do you have an SCA-oriented web site (to show off projects, keep dress diaries, etc.)?
Not really. Thinking about a dress diary though.
17. Do you maintain a hairstyle that is more period style than modern? How about any other part of your appearance?
Not really. I have bangs at the moment, but most of the time I can hide them. The long hair I essentially have for the SCA, since the Burgundian stuff often looks good with braids or loose wavy tresses. I don't wear makeup, medieval or modern, except on rare occasions.
18. Do you tell "No $###, there I was" stories? (Admit it.)
Of course!
19. Authenticity is Fun. Yes or no?
Yes! But that doesn't mean all my stuff is authentic. I do what I can, and what I can afford.
20. Is there one modern thing at events that really bugs you?
Cell phones - people talking on them in the main areas, and people who forget to turn them off or put them on vibrate for court.
Bonus Question! 21. Everyone has a shameful garb/accessory mistake hidden somewhere in their past. What's yours? (We're all friends here, we promise not to laugh. Much.)
Hmm. I guess my second dress would qualify. Beautiful satin and brocade overdress with a split skirt, velvet middle layer. Hat was okay, but I really had no idea what the back of it was supposed to look like, so it didn't go down far enough for proper support. Fortunately I have long hair, so my method was to put my hair in a bun and rest the back of the hat on it. Major flaw: I made the bodice perfectly fitted for a person who doesn't have a shoulder problem. Not being aware of this problem, I didn't know until I'd worn the dress for several hours that I needed to be able to rest my shoulder in a more forward position. Worse, we'd all come to the event already dressed, in someone else's car, so I had to wait until everyone was ready to go. I ended up pinching a nerve in the shoulder/neck area.
