Nifty! Put a bid on an egg scale (Oakes Mfg) of same type as we have downstairs, as L wanted one of our own. Found one at eBay that wasn't ridiculously priced, bid on it, and then forgot about it until I got the email saying I'd won the auction. Shipping was almost as much as the bid, but all totaled is still less than any new models I found, _before_ shipping. Go me!

Is there some reason not to just use a generic food scale? I admit that the egg scales on Ebay are fetching, but I'm curious.

Egg scales are designed to measure weights within a more limited, but accurate range; however I think the most important part is that the place you put the egg is curved so that it won't be rolling around while you try to weigh it.
