Steampunk World's Fair (SPWF)
May. 6th, 2011 05:52 pmI was looking over the workshops and discussions for SPWF, and now I'm getting excited about some of the possibilities. The actual schedule should be posted over the weekend, so Monday I can start planning my time there.
There will be combat classes. Two are co-ed and one is specifically geared toward women, as women have some different accessories than men. The style is called Bartitsu and is a mix of things, including savate (foot combat) and La Canne (cane).
So now, I should see if I can find a parasol that I'd be willing to get scruffed up... eek. I do have a fan I can use though, and I'm sure I can come up with a purse/bag. I have one that would do quite well although it doesn't match anything I'll be wearing :P
***
Have ordered shoes from Fugawee, which are shipping today so that I can try them on ASAP and see if they're the right size. And have a chance to break them in a little too.
Interesting side note -- with those shoes on, I'll be the same height as the dress mannequin I'm using for making my outfit. I decided I really couldn't manage without one, so I brought my MIL's old non-adjustable one down from the attic and have padded it out to my size and put my new corset on it.
***
Much as I'd like to have time to make everything, I suspect I'll be using some existing chemise or tank top for under and over the corset. And I have a couple of elastic-waisted broom skirts I can use for petticoats. Since I'm doing Natural Form (no hoops or bustle), the petticoats a pretty lightweight affair. If I happen to have time, I'll make one but.... still in the queue: bodice, skirt, overskirt (drape), vest (Fitzw), embellishing a hat. And that's the bare minimum.
***
Been slow-going because I completely botched the measurements for the bodice and had to re-do the math. Glad I used muslin. Am cutting out new muslin today. Should be able to work on bodice tomorrow.
