My favorite kind of tux ever, but not, I think, correct for Victorian....

Still, not going to stop liking it!

I love tail-coats too.
A used to have one that he adored, that he got in a used clothing shop. :)

That has possibilities too, although not sure I have the time for that kind of shopping -- my free time off the farm has been pretty limited of late. Still, one never knows....

The only major diff between this and a Victorian cut is the front, which I believe would be square-cut rather than as pictured...

I thought tailcoats were more Regency?

Depends on the type of tails, I think.

When I saw it I thought of the men in Alphonse Mucha's art work. I will check my books at home, but I think something close would work, but with a different shirt.

I adore Mucha!

I'm working on a shirt for L, from a Victorian pattern -- just need to put in the button holes. Tie and vest are next. The tie is easy and I've managed a vest for myself a couple of years ago so I'm pretty confident on making one for him.

Pants and jackets are really hard though... men's pants have extra parts as I recall. I remember making a pair of pajamas once and they turned out fine, I just was working in the dark about half the time :D Kind of like the cuffs on this baby bunting I made once... certain things just seem to throw me for some reason.

There's also a difference between day and evening wear, and which part of the period you're trying for. Honestly, I'm not sure why I'm that stressed about it, considering this is for a Steampunk thing, but I did sort of want some things to be duel purpose -- you know, in case we end up doing something more strictly Victorian at some point.

There's also the Gentlemen's Emporium website, which I may also consider -- $$ vs. time*stress.

yep

Gents is where I first looked. Similar styling...but you're right: $$

Still, I was looking at (retail) fabric costs vs finished garments for seafaring kit, and I might just buy the damn things :-\

Yeah, I definitely plan on making some pants for L, but probably more of the every day type, not fancy dress. And only 3 weeks to go - eek!
