Saw the doc yesterday, who did various ROM tests and stuff. Confirmed what I was pretty sure of, that everything appears to still be attached, just strained perhaps (in particular lateral attachments).

Anyway, no kung fu or other things that jolt or twist the knee for a couple of weeks. Keep up exercises for strengthening core, VMO and Sartorius (inner thigh muscles), keep up stretches and add something more for IT band if I can find something useful. Wear orthotics more - been doing that in class but relying on the generic support in my boots outside of class, which simply isn't as good as the real deal. So have to stop being lazy and move the supports to whichever shoes I'm wearing.

Add in lightly-weighted leg exercise -- weight around ankle, knee supported over an arm or sofa chair, straight-leg lift. Having the knee bent and supported means the exercise is isolated and benefits the knee more.

Happily, the anti-inflammatory prescription the doc gave me for my shoulder will work for the knee too :D He did half-kid that maybe I should pick a different sport, but really, if I didn't do something at kung fu, I'd probably just do it moving hay bales or whatever. Improving the stretches and strengthening exercises is the important thing. Although, the time will likely come when I have to stop, or at least won't be working at progressing further, as some things in kung fu will simply be beyond what I can do with an older body. Eh, I'll worry about that when the time comes ;)

I'm hoping to perhaps be able to start it as well, once I'm functioning again.

Best of luck! Sounds like you're about to embark on the same type of PT stuff as [profile] joe_chin, and he gets really poofed by the exercizes he's been given.

Thanks :)

Some of it can be challenging, for sure!

Actually, one thing I'm doing right now is trying to maintain correct posture while at the computer -- it's harder than one might think!
