Thursday night Fitzw and I went to the Greening Ashfield meeting, and while there he taught me some basics of crochet. It was kind of interesting since he had to do it mostly by slow visual demonstration so as not to detract from the meeting, but I got it.

Whoot!

Now I have another skill to fill all the copious spare time I have :D

And I did it left-handed (which I'm not).

An article I read I thought you'd be interested in. Are You A Religious Naturalist Without Knowing It?

Interesting article.

Without knowing it, though? I think we do know it. ;-)

I am curious to know how MacGyver relates to crocheting....

LOL Well, it's the only icon I have that relates to doing things oneself.

I learned crochet in 4th grade, also knitting. However, I didn't continue with the knitting, so with knitting, I'm about where you are with crochet.

*nods* But the crocheting you do quite well!

Thanks. It's a process (as is everything!)

Me and Jay learned how to play crochet at his bosses house party. It was fun especially when they show you how to send away someones ball. Hehe. Drinks, food and friends made it all the better. :)

Oops! The words are similar but different meanings. You're talking about the game croquet (which is definitely fun!). I'm talking about a method of turning yarn into blankets, sweaters, etc.

LOL Yes indeed. I tried it again last night. Not too bad, but I think I need really good light or thicker yarn :P

Yes, well. I have some sock-weight (between lace weight and fingering weight) Shetland yarn that's supposed to be turned into a replica of the Gunnister purse, but it may be turned into weaving yarn instead because without cheaters and a really good light I can't see to crochet it, let alone knit it. :-p

Ah, indeed. Or, maybe it's a sunny morning or afternoon break-time project?

I definitely will need to wear reading glasses for some of this stuff. I already do for certain kinds of work, like warping the loom.

Nice to know I'm not the only woman who was taught to crochet by a man. My dad was the one to teach me...along with how to braid. Two things he learned making rugs with his grandmother.

How cool is that? I love hearing about family knowledge/traditions/skills being passed on :)
