USDA-approved ammonia-injected ground beef

Hey, all the industry is trying to do is make sure nothing gets wasted. They're being frugal, right?

Suggestions: give up beef, give up at least ground beef (although who knows what's going on with the rest of it these days), or eat local grass-fed beef

I knew commercial beef wasn't great, for people or for the animals, but not all the details :(

Farmer's market meat FTW!

I'm so glad I've got a meat CSA available, plus a friendly not-so-neighbourhood shepherd!

It's been amazing to me, finding out just how many local sources we have in our area. Glad you have good sources too :)

Universal #2 FTW! (In other words, buy a grinder and make your own ground beef from solid chunks. We've done it for years whenever beef is on sale cheap.)

Word to the wise: anything cited from Natural News should be verified in a mainstream news source or two or three. I've caught NN out in some pretty egregious misstatements. (Not this one, but others.)

Good idea on the grinder. We have one but haven't needed it yet. And good to know about NN. And although NYT isn't my favorite paper, they seemed to be on top of things this time.

Big Ag is too big! *sigh*

In our markets you can get the London Broil cuts on sale for about $1-$1.50/lb cheaper than ground beast anyway, so when a sale comes we get big ones, cut them up like stew beef, and run them through the medium and then the fine blades of the U#2. Any we're not going to meatloaf with instantly gets wrapped in 1 1/2 lb packages (meat loaf sized *g*) and frozen. It's a bit of work, which is one reason why we don't eat ground beast very often, but it's so much tastier than the storebought and safer too...

Big Ag needs a David to bring it down. :-p

NN can be good but it can also be awful. The individual reporters vary in quality, and Adams himself is an unreliable twitch on several subjects. (Don't get me started on his claim to be able to cure diabetes. *grits teeth*) That's why, since I have to read it for work, I took to verifying everything.
