Largest hoard found to date
Yes, larger than the Sutton Hoo find.... a bit of copper alloy and other bits, some silver, and a lot of gold.

Date: 2009-09-24 04:45 pm (UTC)...they're still hung up on their little pet theories. "Pagans" did it, because the barely more than paper thin cross was all twisted and bent? I can think of dozens of other explanations - including "hurry and hide it in that box! They're coming for taxes and we have to hide it!" for the twisting.
It's been in the ground for how long, near the surface? How about 'frost heaves' for reasons for the damage? If it can do what it did to the castle at Cooper's lake...
Bloody single-minded archaeologists.
