Water heater does indeed need to be replaced. Apparently they usually last about 8 years. Ours lasted 10, so that's pretty good. Replacement and parts will run around $1,100. Good thing we have that equity line... Another good thing is that they're working on it even as I'm writing this. Yay!

Wow... good thing you could get it replaced right away. Our water heater went out at the beginning of the summe, and we made it most of the way through the summer without one. Cold showers got old quick, though.

We had one go in Springfield on a holiday...fortunately we rented it from the gas company, so they replaced it free of charge! Unfortunately, we realized there was a problem only after we had a couple of inches of water in the basement, and of course when the Ex finished bailing and wanted a shower, there was none left....
