No panicking going on here, thanks! Going to do some of the food shopping this week though, and see about packing a few things.

***
Need to make a few chitons for L, and wondering about putting trim on it. Was thinking of running trim along the top edge, but then I thought I'd read somewhere a few weeks back that the trim was on one of the vertical edges? Hm....

Then there's the question of how to weight down the corners of the himation.... somehow they're supposed to be weighted, but nobody says with what...

***
Oh, and I should make some shortbread next week to bring with us. Part of the EK Party desserts.

***
Discuss possible baronial court business with L, and make up some cards for P.

***
L needs to determine tomorrow if he'll be going to fighter practice to re-authorize. Thumb is still acting up. So tomorrow, pack up the armor, go to kungfu class, then see if we're going to fighter practice.

***
If I'm panicking about anything, it's what's going to happen to the garden while we're away...

Fringe was used with some regularity on edges, that should help with the weight. This includes just fraying the raw edge of the himation** for about 1", not just applying a layer of trim/fringe to it.

I have been known to tack wee tassels on the corners of an occasional Greco-Roman garment.

**And I had a theatre teacher in college who lived to bait me. She pronounced it HY-MAY-SHUN, like "animation", rather than hih-mah-tee-un.

I was thinking about tassels on the corners - thanks! Hm... and maybe a fringe on the narrower sides.... too bad I already hemmed it on all four sides :D Oh well.... if I have time I may be making one for L too, although I suspect he'll revert to his Norman clothing in the evenings.

And thank you for the pronunciation info too -- had no idea!

I've decided that the trim on his chitons will go along the top edge. It makes more sense since it won't be obscured or sweated on. Also, it means I can finish that edge by folding it down and machine-sewing the trim over it instead of hand-hemming another several yards of fabric. Bwahahaa!

My research (which could be entirely wrong) from mumble years back was that finished edges didn't really exist as we know it. Either there were selvage edges, or fringed raw edges - the fringing stopped raveling.

I'd love proof otherwise!

Guess I should have posted about this sooner :( I'd just as soon not undo all the hemming at this point however. Also, the selvage had this stupid white thread woven into it.

*sigh*

Make a small holder in each corner and hold it down with money. That way you'll always have spare change! :) [just kidding, but the idea hit before I could stop it! :) ]

I was thinking that by the second week of War, there's likely a goodly supply of expired fighters... and they're heavy.

But some aren't necessarily that decorative. ;) Heavy - yes, I'll grant you that.

True, but there might be a fighter or three I'd be willing to try decorating with ;)

I take it this means you guys are off soon... have fun and rest often, both of you (and above all, DRINK!)

Yeah, we're leaving Sat or Sun (Jul 25 or 26).

We'll do our best to have fun, take needed breaks, and of course, drink! And yes, the right kind of drinking -- we're neither one of serious drinkers :D

Thanks for the kind thoughts :)
