Yule Feast
Dec. 10th, 2006 01:56 amA number of things changed this week, up to and including on Friday (doesn't something always happen just before an event?)
- Cleaned a good bit this week, then stopped when it became evident that we wouldn't be having anyone staying over, owing to changes in circumstances in other folks lives. S'okay, still got to visit here and there with
loosecanon :) More cleaning will still happen, just not tomorrow...
Una's wheels are still here, but
fitzw managed to fit D.Moiselle's wheel into the vehicle and got it to her at the event.
Gathered prizes and only needed them for A&S, so that worked out. Did succeed in purchasing things stuff for I Sebastiani and most of my Yule prezzies, although I had to finish the shopping at Yule. One left to go, for
ellid (who gave me a very lovely scarf!). Bethesda L is still a work in progress, and likely will continue to be so for the next year.
- Finished the calligraphy Friday, and had all the text on the PC except for credits on one because none were on the back, and text for one because that one was delivered at the event. All were appreciated and well-received.
- Gather and copy all receipts (Did not do this. Will do it tomorrow or Monday, but hopefully tomorrow a.m., so I can get them to one of the event stewards tomorrow.
- Drew up order most of court business Friday and finalized things at the event. A long court, longer than usual, but pretty good. Needed to do the pre-draft this time so we could work around one of the awards going to the herald on duty and one going to the deputy herald on duty.
- No spinning (of wool) happened. Maybe later in the week.
Lots of folks were at Yule! Beautiful weather, the forest got set up, although it was a good bit of work because everyone's batteries kept dying of the cold, so not all the trees went up. Still looked pretty good and people really seemed to enjoy playing in it. At least one tree went home with someone to be a holiday tree for feeding outdoor birds and such. The fighters knocked down most of the forest by the end. We were theorizing that between ships and boar hunters, this is why England got low on wood after a while.
Eric vH came in first with some amazing maille - rivetted. He even demoed making a ring for us, as well as going over the highlights of debates, etc. I've asked him to teach at NS/BB -- he has to check his schedule but if he isn't at sea he'll teach. Second was Magnus with a tablet-woven and sprang hat (inspired by a find of a tablet-woven and sprang stocking and/or sleeve (probably stocking)). Tie for 3rd between Pagan G's Lombard mustard and one of Emma M's scroll blanks.
We had eight entries, all told! Much fun looking at everything people are working on.
Displayed were spun yarns by D.Moiselle and illumination in progress by
nazrynn. Much (careful) drooling over the illumination, as well as wistful sighs.
Got to chat with lots of folks at some point during the day/night, in addition the the folks mentioned above:
baronessmartha,
bytchearse,
rick_wolff,
zaduzbina,
calygrey, and
gwynt_y_storm (who I took as an apprentice during court). Didn't get to chat with
antoniseb, which I would have liked to have done. And of course talked with many folks who either aren't on LJ or I don't know their LJ names.
loosecanon gave us some plates/chargers for our NS/BB novice feastgear efforts - Thanks!!
EDIT: And also saw
freya46 there, of course. A bunch of us helped get all her stuff in, as well as some things for some of the other merchants. It was pretty cold out there around 8am. And
bkdelong was also there helping, I think maybe with reloading Bob as well, but not sure. I know
lady_jade_01's husband Seamus was working with her during the day. End Edit.
I Sebastiani was marvelous. There were some quite daring things with a ladder, some rather interesting young "ladies", and of course all the trials and tribulations of love. I'm so glad they were able to fit us into their very busy schedule! They also added
baronessmartha's daughter in -- I don't know if it was planned or not, but she did quite well! Very expressive face :)
lady_jade_01 received her Fountain (service) in court, as did Eric vH and Josephone vH. Eleanore M received her Hourglass (A&S), as did Deth (our herald, who apparently got one a few years ago, sigh, but he still liked the scroll).
gwynt_y_storm we got with a Sable Bear (martial arts) right after the apprenticing, and then she got to see
etainmbw's brother Derrick, one of the fighters
gwynt_y_storm trained, get his as well.
There was other business as well, passing on of a family Tyger Cub medallion from uncle C to niece B via grandparents Sir Tom and her exc. Fiona, a 'legal' matter between various folks (too long, won't go into it on LJ), Snowberg poem performed by Lady Loreta (quite good), archery badges given out, etc. Oh, and formally announced the baronial novice household thing.
There was of course entertainment during an absolutely wonderful and tasty dinner. They had a challenge or two because day things ran a little later than we expected and we weren't able to make up the time in court as we sometimes manage to do, so dinner also had to start late, perforce. Nevertheless I loved everything thing, and
fitzw tried nearly everything, which is pretty amazing in and of itself. Oh, and the servers looked great with their new server napkins over the shoulders :)
The auction also went well, and we have a tremendous start on Runnymede 2008. Actually, we may have enough, but it depends on what we do, since we are considering trying to hire either Wolgemut or the group out of Texas or something like that.
Long day, long night. But a very happy day all around.
