Still ill, both of us. Cough and congestion are a tiny bit less, but just as tiring and just as good at wringing a person out.

Finally opened the box from Om Shanti last night -- everything smells lovely and I'm looking forward to using the salts and trying out the lip balm. I'm amused by the balm "Scarborough Fair", as I invented a chicken dish by that name years ago (has more than just the herbs of the song in it). Opened the seed order from Richter's as well because L noticed a cut in the side of the box. Spent quite a while sorting as much of the Evening Primrose seeds out of the loose Flax seeds last night as sanely possible. Fortunately they are rather different in size. This helped some.

Order from Alchemy Works came in today. Trying out the Kyphi incenses and oil. Should be fun!

[livejournal.com profile] hugh_mannity posted a wonderful post on the SCA, real life, and basically, some of the better qualities a person can aspire to, today.

Courtesy, especially under pressure, is a gift; one that should be cultivated. And in my book, courtesy applies to everyone, regardless of rank (I don't always succeed, but I try real hard).

My mother-in-law says:

Always be gracious. If you are right, you can afford to be. If you are wrong, you can't afford not to be.

I learned courtesy from my dad. He was always polite to everyone. He was an elementary school principal -- a smallish village school -- and treated everyone, from the janitor and lunch ladies to the county education officials with grace and courtesy.

One day they one of the lunch ladies got sick during the morning. He took her home, then returned to the school. At lunch they needed one more person to serve the lunches, so he took on the job. A few days later they presented him with a cap and frilly apron and made him an honorary lunch lady. He viewed that as one of the highest honours he ever received.

I can be a horribly snarky bastard at times (and I enjoy it, too!) but "please", "thank you", and a smile cost nothing and bring huge rewards.

Lessons well learned. And thank you for sharing the story of your father -- just the sort of person we need more of in our world today.

I have my snarky moments too ;) But yes, simple courtesy can bring great rewards.

Indeed. Not always easy to follow, but usually worth it.

[livejournal.com profile] hugh_mannity is also a fiber person, so I think you'll enjoy his posts. And damned funny.
