Somewhere in New England is.... one of the most amazing libraries I've ever seen.

Not in person, alas. But there are pictures.

*sigh*

Welcome! Wouldn't it be amazing to get to see even a 1/10th of what's there?

It would be wonderful. Just to run your fingers over some of those books... Then, I turn around and think, "Wow! Why aren't you keeping those in humidity- and light-controlled environments?" Some of those books are in front of the window getting direct sunlight on them and they're many hundreds of years old!

Yes and no.... he probably has the entire room humidity- and light-controlled to a certain degree. The windows probably have some built-in UV protection stuff on them.

Also, we don't know if he normally has all the books out like that or if some were brought out for the news people to take photos. Even if he likes to juxtapose older and newer things (like the medical texts collection), he may normally have a lot of the stuff in cases -- otherwise they'd not only have the humidity and light issues but also basic things like getting dusty, which would require extra handling...

It's probably a very good thing that the article did not disclose the precise geographical location of that collection.

He'd have a slew of geeks at his front gate, drooling... :D

Hm, it's probably relatively near to Walker Digital's offices.... but yeah, I expect you're right. Still, he does sometimes allow school tours.... hm...

You're a stronger woman than I, clawing your way through that community.

LOL! I choose my battles ;) Although once I've met some of the Mass_steam folks in person and feel more up-to-speed, I may drop out again and just check manually from time to time.

re: library... Yeah, I'm wondering if it's in daytrip driving distance... field trip anyone?

That place is absolutely incredible - I could SO live there!

Perhaps it should be posted to the 'Awesome Places' website/blog
