Okay, I did not expect an interview with Starhawk on Energy Bulletin's web site. Then again, I haven't really thought about her aside from reading The Spiral Dance years ago. She's been a busy lady: http://energybulletin.net/node/46028
The person interviewing her is Rob Hopkins, who is a leader in the Totnes Transition Town project in the UK. She had some good things to say, some of the usual one might read about sustainable/environmental stuff, but also about giving people a time/space in which to grieve for changes in their lives. I think she's right that some people can be too intolerant about other folks' missing being able to do things the way they used to, at times. Whether or not it's environmentally (or financially for most folks) sound to drive less, use less electricity, etc. or not, it can be a big change for a lot of folks. Acknowledging the loss can enable people to let go of it, and make space for more good things in their lives. Yes, we need to live cleaner, more thoughtful lives, and quickly too. But it's the nature of most human beings to need to acknowledge what is passing, for better or worse -- this is true whether what is changing is considered to be good or bad by each person.

Date: 2008-07-26 03:43 am (UTC)Oh, hey, next Concentus practice will be August 17. I know Sunday evenings aren't great for you, but maybe we'll be able to switch to a different day again in the fall. Meantime, the comfrey is growing. We'll work something out for that at some point!
