Misc, Earth Hour, April 19 and 20
Mar. 27th, 2008 10:10 am... because I'm of course also thinking about getting things ready for Coronation (EK Stationers), which means sending off reminder emails to the list and also to someone who offered a contribution to the Stationers gifts but needs a reminder.... continuing to get things in order in the weaving and craft areas, remembering that the grain seed that came in needs to be put in buckets for now... various projects that I have lined up that I need to fit into the schedule, like making a sling and moccasin boots (yes, I have a pattern).... maybe walk around the farm a little today, to get in some hills...

Got some lettuce and marigold seeds into pots yesterday. Hoping to plant tomatoes, squash, cukes, pumpkins, today. Maybe some other stuff. Basically, until I fill the second starter tray we have. We'll probably need to get another one...

Earth Hour, 8-9pm (your time), this Saturday (March 29). Turn off all unnecessary lights.
Hm, don't know if there will be much of an effect, but I suppose if enough people do it, it might be noticeable from space... The U.S.'s eastern seaboard has so many people on it, that we really light up the night sky.

My take on it? Enjoy reading, tv, or whatever, by candlelight. Meditate by candlelight, or have a late romantic supper by candlelight... Or maybe dessert ;) Many things are improved by clearing the visual and sound clutter that surrounds us on a daily basis, and candlelight is a good way to soften the edges on things, creating a focus on the immediate here and now. Or if you can't light regular candles, there are some decent battery-powered ones.
If the sky's clear, maybe star-gazing might be the thing to do during this time... the moon's waning(last quarter), so from 8-9pm EST (our time) it should be reasonably dark. I'll probably go out for a bit, even though it still gets pretty chilly here. My first astronomy course was during fall semester, so we were making observations into December. Then I took another astron course in the spring, and February isn't much better. The major nuisance was having to take my mittens off to take notes (I usually wore thinner gloves inside them, but sometimes bare skin was unavoidable). Dress warmly -- the colder it is, the clearer the sky :)
Hey, I believe in saving energy and the environment, but that doesn't mean sitting in the dark and wailing that the world is coming to an end. Life is for living.

April 19 is National Hanging Out Day
Article on Project Laundry List and National Hanging Out Day"
Not an issue for us, but in other places there are bans against hanging your laundry outside. In California, nearly all the 35,000 HOAs ban it.
Fight for your right to dry!

April 20 is Earth Day. Re-discover the world. It has always been there. Need I say more?

Date: 2008-03-27 07:55 pm (UTC)HOAs are awful. Agreed, they are Borg, and not just on laundry. However, the Project Laundrylist folks appear to be crew of the Enterprise :) I hope they win!
