Date: 2008-02-21 02:43 pm (UTC)A couch that was custom-made for you would probably be the same height (about chair height, from the look of it), but a bit wider and longer, for a proper fit.
The link I have to the triclinium in one of my previous posts shows how they can differ. It's set up as three "couches" around an open space, where the table would go, for dining. Although in the photo everything is made of stone, the stone platforms would have been covered with cushions/futon-like things to make it comfortable.
I suppose the plus-side for us these days, of a bed as high as the one in the above pic, is that you could store plenty of things underneath it.
