Jan. 31st, 2008 05:40 pmOy. Finished the artwork Tuesday that I needed to send off via email by today. Unpacked the scanner, discovered the transformer was missing (it's in a box somewhere...). And of course it is an unusual one, unlike any others we have or that are easy to get at a store. So the scanner being ten years old, we opted to look for a new one. We will of course keep the old one, in hopes of someday finding the transformer.
We were hoping to get a new scanner with either a flush-mount glass, or a larger bed. Neither exists in this area. Of the two, I'd prefer the larger bed because it would make scanning larger images much easier, and I'll be looking online again when I have the time. In the meantime we bought a new one that appears to have a _slightly_ larger glass than the old one -- and has other features as well that may come in handy for other projects. But, it is still just a little too small for my newest piece of work. So, L photocopy reduced it on his mom's copier downstairs, which is kind of good, except for the smearing... Anyway, he scanned the copy and made a jpg of it (best for black and white).
But, we don't have good editing software for jpgs (can do color balancing but no cutting or cleaning up). So I converted it to a bmp, re-sized it enough to get it to open in MS Paint, cleaned it up, then re-converted it back to a jpg so it would be small enough to send via email. The file size changes were something else...
Taking a photo had actually been an option too, but the camera's batteries need charging... so... life is _sooo_ interesting sometimes.
If I get chosen for the project we'll likely bring everything down to Paradise Copies and have them do the scanning.
[EDIT} Email received. Yay!
