Good news: one of the two garbage bags of clothing to sort was already sorted last spring... all giveaway, and now all in the Planet Aid box down the block, along with another back of newly sorted out clothing. Yay!

Eh news: plastic still not up on windows, but hopefully by Monday. [personal profile] fitzw noted that the duct tape wasn't sticking too well in a few places, and that there were other window panes having problems, so he caulked all the panes with issues. So, still not done, but at least improving.

Future: talked about what to use for the passive solar heating, and [personal profile] fitzw suggested using a couple of 5-gal steel containers that we sometimes use for gathering sap in the spring. Just have to paint them black :) Also have an old metal carboy that should work well.

Dinner at Ruby Tuesday's went well. 10 people made it, including the guest of honor. Much chatting, and a bit of singing in the hall outside. Some plotting of possibility of something special for Yule. Birnam forest may come to Dunsinane yet...

Fiber Twist tomorrow. Sleep now!
g'night :)

passive solar..
we use springrods and hand black plastic in the upper half of the windows. The sun warms the plastic, the plastic warms the air around it. It appears to work pretty well. KRistie and I both tried it last year for the first time.
I used caulk last year instead of plastic and tape. It looked tidier and allowed room for the black plastic.

If you stumble upon other ideas, post by all means. I think we can share ideas around and all benefit at least by laughing at one another.

Could be an interesting idea for a regular window, thanks. Since this is supposed to be a greenhouse I need to keep the windows clear... I read about the black water-filled containers in a book on greenhouses, and figured that since the room's on the 2nd floor, we get a fair amount of light in there all day, much of which hits the lower half of one of the inside walls all afternoon -- so, the water heats up, then I'll lower the insulated shades at dark, and the heat is slowly emitted to the room during the night. Okay, I don't know if 'emitted' is the verb I wanted, but you know what I mean.
