Huge Kite Helps Container Ship Across Atlantic

The "kite" looks more like a parasail, but interesting anyway. Also, many shipping lines are saving fuel simply by slowing down. Some ferries overseas are doing it as well. Good read!

I caught the story on the news this morning, but didn't see the ship's kite, just heard about it. It is more like a sail than a kite, but kudos anyway. Let's hope it takes off! (pun intended! LOL) Thanks for posting the article.

Yeah, I'm hopeful on the sails too. Also think it's great how much they're saving on fuel/CO2 emissions just by slowing down...

Welcome, and thanks for posting on the chickens.

Interesting.
Seems like adding a sail, but without a mast.
I wonder if this requires a keel. I wonder if sailing ships might make a comeback.

There's no mention of needing a keel in the article, but I don't really know. Anything to help with pollution is good though :)

It would be pretty cool if real sailing ships made a comeback, although if they did it would probably only be for shorter trips. But you never know...

Funny how the "old technology" is becoming the "new technology"
