[livejournal.com profile] alphasarah has been making great strides in her fitness and losing weight this year! Other friends are working on it too, and so are we. Moving kind of put things on hiatus, although at least I didn't gain too much back this fall -- and am losing it again, yay!

Only some of it through diet, considering we had chocolate chocolate-chunk cookies the past couple of days -- L was craving some junk food and we couldn't go out except the one short trip for PT yesterday a.m., so he made some. I have a small stock of baker's chocolate (semi-sweet), and the recipe was a simple one without all the icky fake stuff and preservatives, so for junk food it wasn't bad (and very tasty!).

Obviously I can't do much right now, and anytime I exert myself I have to take a nap later on, because of the recovery thing. But since I have to do some of my PT stuff throughout the day, I figure I might as well throw a few other activities in at the same time -- sometimes a lot, sometimes just moving a couple of things from one room to another. Just now I've spent nearly an hour doing some of my PT stuff and then going on to polish some furniture, doors, and doorways (we have all wood doors and framing, and some of it was looking a bit dry).

Ooo, and I might be able to go out walking again this weekend -- with company, anyway :) We went to the post office to send out some stuff, then over to Country Pie Pizza for lunch. While L's pizza was being made (I had some of the homemade soup), we stopped in at Ashfield Hardware next door. My PT guys suggested getting Yak Trax -- rubber things that slip on over your footgear. They have metal coils around the rubber framework on the part that goes underneath your boot. I got the pro style, which have a strap in addition to the basic setup -- good for hikers, people working on farms, etc. The ones one of my PT people wears didn't have the strap, but I don't think she's doing as much outside aside from walking around. L got a pair as well. The lady at the hardware store fitted mine onto my boots for me, and noted that we should rotate the coils periodically, to make sure they get even wear and last longer. They're very light and bite into the snow and ice quite well.

So, yes, trying to lose weight and get healthier during the holidays... well, not impossible. The major temptation is the cookies and other desserts, and I intend to apply the same plan to the Gray family gathering that I do to a friend's Christmas Eve party -- eat some things there, take some things home for later. As long as I don't take in too many calories at once (the body can only handle so much at a time), I can enjoy some of the treats and not suffer for it. Luckily the family is into veggies and some turkey, so as long as I only have one or two dinner biscuits the rest is very healthy eating.

Anyway, figured I better finish up this post, since after this I plan to read a few pages in one of my books, and then probably take a nap! My long-term plan is to be in better shape than I was before I got injured last winter :)

Yes! YakTrax are awesome!
Just don't try to wear them inside on hard
floors at all. Its not so much that they will
mar the floor, as that they are as slick as
ice on damp tile or hardwood.
