We bought Wellness cat food for the kitties to try. First can this morning, success! Also got some of the dry to try. My thanks to
baronessmartha for suggesting trying it out. Wellness Cat Food used to be Old Mother Hubbard Co. Massachusetts-based company, no import issues, use people grade ingredients.
We've been thinking of switching brands but were reluctant because the cats haven't liked most of the 'healthy' foods, and I'm not up to making their food yet. But then Sharon Astyk posted on what goes into a lot of pet foods, and that completely grossed me out, so it was time to make a change. I have issues with diseased and euthanized animals being used as pet food... while there is a limit to what I'll do for our pets, as long as they're basically healthy and enjoying life, I'll do what I can to make that a good life -- decent food is definitely something we can manage.
Paul Newman's Own Organic pet foods are supposed to be good too, but they only had the dry at the store, and we need both canned and dry.
And we use Swheat Scoop for their litter boxes -- that was partly environmental and partly because Peredur couldn't stand the clay litters, especially if they were scented. Can't use any of the wood chip litters because he's a long-hair, but the wheat also seems to absorb scent pretty well, especially since it gets cleaned just about daily (less of an issue in winter, with low humidity). Anyway, the non-clay stuff can be flushed or composted (make sure it won't be used as human garden compost), so many pluses. And for those who care, it's made in the U.S.
