Two showings yesterday. First one to two lovely women - would love to get to know them outside of trying to sell a house to them. They loved the place -- one of them kept wandering back into the living/dining room :) They asked about the gay community in Holyoke, and I had to say that I honestly didn't know anyone nearby, but I did know that a couple of the folks on our block are members of MoveOn.org (speaks to tolerance levels).

Second to a family - husband okay, kids fine, wife a bit of a fussy person, plus she didn't like the closets -- valid point as the closets aren't huge. OTOH, that's pretty typical for houses of this age. Today, open house 11am - 1pm.

D-Man, Patricia and Erica came over yesterday, to do some carpentry, scraping, painting, etc. D put in the door frame in the living room plus some baseboards and fastening a board down on the front porch. P scraped and swept and I scraped and then painted most of the porch floor. L painted the remainder of the front porch, in front of the door, after the second showing. E painted a little over half of the ceiling in the master bedroom. I also finished mulching in the front and front/side yards yesterday morning, and P swept and weeded the front walkway and sidewalk. Looks amazing out front!

On the alternative housing front, this article on the UK was pretty interesting. Finally got around to reading the whole thing this morning. Talks about some of the projects being built, and the higher cost of construction for some of them. At the Center for Alternative Techonologies (CAT) in Machynlleth, Wales though, they're testing out old technologies and finding that those work quite well and for a lot less money. The article focuses on home-building. Not sure how you'd apply some of the technologies mentioned to say, an apartment or office building... although they could at least change to using limecrete instead of concrete.

CAT is at: http://www.cat.org.uk

One of the architectural/building places mentioned is: http://www.oneplanetliving.org. I really liked their idea of communal heating/energy system.

Well, still have some tidying up to do for the open house, so more later.
