helwenThis morning I was hand watering some plants as it's been rather sunny and dry of late. Even the Russian Sage need a little help now and then in weather like this.
Hand watering, with a watering can, has two advantages... one is that I can use our rain water, and the other is that I can put the water exactly where I want it. And I suppose there is a third advantage, which is that I get a fair amount of exercise in this sort of weather, because almost everyone wants a drink!
I didn't get an early start this morning, so I had to have a care for the bees and bumbles that were hard at work among the Russian Sage. I had to step in next to one briefly at one point to reach another plant's base, and a bumble bounced off my arm. He was trying to get from one flower to the next and swung a little wide, as they sometimes do. Startled a small "Ah!" out of me, although I was careful not to move too suddenly.
I got the distinct impression from the bee of 'Whuh?' and 'Mmm, flower...'
Considering our differences in size, I rather expect I'm not quite real as an entity to him...

More work to do on the house today, of course. And more packing. And simmering tomatoes from juice into something more sauce-like.
We're not being terribly good about saving energy or buying things at the moment. We do what we can, but we have to fix the house up for sale, and for showings all the lights have to be on (it's a marketing thing). The lights are on for maybe 30-60 minutes in general, which isn't too bad -- except when we forget to turn one of them off... sigh. Well, hopefully we won't have to do it for too much longer.
Meanwhile, speaking of using limited resources, we'll be renting another truck to move another big bunch of stuff out, in anticipation of the open house.
Ah well. Off to work!
