We went up Mt. Toby with
gwynt_y_storm, Jeni, and Talie. Gorgeous day! Quite a lot of variety in plant life there, and we were even able to identify quite a few things. Water level is low in that area, as evidenced by the low or non-existent water levels in a number of the brooks and streams. But the majority of plant life on the mountain seems to be doing all right at the moment. Could be better, could be worse. Some great old rocks and boulders up there, too.
We went up the fire tower at the top and looked around, spotting Mt. Tom across the valley and UMass nearby, among other places. The summit is nearly completely surrounded by oaks, almost like a natural grove. There were a pine and a fir in the innermost circle of trees, with a silver maple just behind them.
The highlight of the viewing was the mated pair of bald eagles, soaring and playing gently as they went by the mountain, to the north and then east of us.
Knee held up pretty well, shoulder's a touch achey but not too bad. I think we all felt pretty good about how we did for pace and accomplishing reaching the peak :)

Afterward we met up at
gwynt_y_storm's and Jeni's and Talie's place (picked up a couple of calzones at Frontier Pizza on the way). Diarmait and
etainmbw were there, and their mother Patricia showed up later. Some good conversations about sundry things. Also, Jeni gave me a pot with a couple of types of mint in it -- it would seem I'm starting a 'collection'.
Ashfield used to be a major producer of peppermint, btw. Some of which still grows wild there; at least it does on the farm, down by/in the brook.
Came home and have done a little bit of weaving, just to keep things moving forward. Undecided on what I'll be doing for the rest of the evening.
