missed appt.

Forgot to check my schedule last night/this morning, and missed my mammogram. Tomorrow I call, apologize, and re-schedule for whenever they have some time. Bother. Definitely off, today. Perhaps I should make sure the next appt. isn't on a Monday....

mamograms

I've heard horror stories about mamograms, I am not looking forward to my first.

I've heard it said that it's harder on more generously-proportioned ladies, since they all have to be flattened to as much the same thickness, for the photos... Another thing to avoid, if possible, is having it done during your period (water retention).

If the latter is unavoidable, then avoid sugar and salt for the couple of days leading up to your mammogram, as this will cut down on water retention.

And I've found that personally it isn't too bad, except for the one where you're angled in so that they can get the side tissues in...feels like the tech's trying to get everything but my ribs and shoulder in... Generally speaking, I just kind of focus on some nonspecific distance and zone out. The more relaxed you can be, the less discomfort you'll have.

The techs at our hospital are really pretty good at what they do, thank goodness!
