Starting Friday....

Friday was my b-day. Nice and quiet, got some birthday wishes by email, phone, etc. We did go out to lunch, but mostly I did things like read and meditate. Took a very nice soak in the tub in the evening too.

Saturday was the bookbinding workshop. I ended up not helping out as much as I'd originally intended, because I had to buy some hot chocolate and such for the day, the phone rang, dishes needed washing between lunch and dinner-ish/second tea time, and sundry other bits and bobs. I did manage to help with individuals here and there in the second half of the class. Thankfully we had one person with some previous experience, and two who'd taken the class at Novice Schola, so that helped. 11 students!! Happily, most of them were able to either complete or mostly finish their books before going home or other places, and I thought all of the books came out looking quite good!

Our new boy, Alcuin, has a very good feel for the proper tension on the thread and such. A pity he won't be staying past the end of the semester (or if we're lucky he'll stay through the summer) -- but his intention is to keep coming to Bergental when he's able, as already he feels like this is his home.

Sunday was another big crowd, this time at Tom and Fiona's house, for the first of the 14th c. clothing workshops. I believe there were 12 women and one man. One woman was from Carolingia and the man from Quintavia -- they both have schedule conflicts for next Sunday, so they couldn't take advantage of the more convenient workshop happening then in Quintavia. He got a bit of fitting done, help with measurements for hose and such, and browsed through the books and asked questions and such -- charming and very funny fellow, Tegan. Jocelyn was the name of the lady from Carolingia, who was also a delightful person to get to know. She did get fully fitted, so she's good to go on the next step. I think we got all but Pagan, Eleanore, and Barbeta. Even I got fitted, which I wasn't expecting to happen until the 17th (workshop 3). I believe P said she's going to Anselim for fitting -- he's a tailor, among other things, and Eleanore may as well. Barbeta did much looking through books and chatting, but opted to get fit next week. Jennat did most of the pinning on me, then Eleanore joined in and then Pagan.

So, now to make a mockup dress to check the fitting, and then we can go on to the sleeves. I'm considering the fitted elbow, and that I'll need some help with as well.

Tonight, business meeting, so today I finish gathering up receipts, as well as the other things for today of reading, walking (indoors), meditating, and of course, Laundry!

Well darn! I didn't expect to be fitted, myself, quite frankly, being one of the faster seamstresses. The other folks were lucky to have you there to help them get fitted, for sure.

I'm debating possibly doing the 'mockup' in linen, since it seems to be a pretty good fit, aside from some pooking around we may need to do under the arms. Not the stripey stuff I brought yesterday, of course. But I could use more than one dress for Crossroads, since I'm playing more than one role.

You going to be at Quintavia? Or waiting until the 17th?

And thanks for the birthday wishes :)
