Let's see, how are we doing? Stuff with Ma went okay, although she wasn't happy with rehab place (where they seem to be clueless about what gluten-free and no added sodium means, among other things). Bricks pops happened at night, as did some egg washing and packing.

Yesterday morning Ma called and said she'd had enough and was checking out of the rehab place, so off we went to pack her things up and bring her home. Delivered eggs, packed cream, and pops are out of the mold. Skipped kung fu to catch up on things.

Thursday: Wrap and label pops. Hopefully shopping (Waldorf salad), since we didn't do that yesterday, but we'll see....

And what else is left?

Thursday: hopefully L will have time to prep the squash (cube it for cooking), and maybe making the harvest cake. Evening is delivery of goods at the local goods catalog pickup at school. Bye bye cream and pops!

Friday: Oat scones today? Maybe Saturday morning... Make Waldorf salad today or Saturday a.m. If we're lucky, kung fu class.

Saturday: very early, put in turkey. Make whatever still needs making.

And since it's sunny today, spend time in the garden.

Their kitchen supervisor and dietitian should be slapped. I used to be a nursing home cook and I'm here to tell you that a) in most states, probably in MA too, they're required by law to provide for medically dictated special diets, and b) they're more than capable of doing so. GF is all in a day's work for dietary --- it's one of the standard special diets, not one of the oddities like low tyramine or ultra-low protein. They should be able to accommodate it easily.

I'm glad she's ok, but really, the fact that they couldn't feed her competently is not good.

The administrator (who hadn't heard about any of this during the two weeks that my mother was there), got an earful from my mother before she checked out, about the food and other things. There were apparently only two meals during that entire time that she could eat all of, and the staff simply told her to set any problem food aside, rather than getting something to replace it. She freely admits that she needs to lose weight (which she did), but that was not why she was there, nor is that the way to accomplish it.

Nor is it legal for them to place her on a restricted diet without doctor's orders and a dietitian's evaluation. Especially not when she's convalescent from surgery, and it's very important that she get proper nutrition to support the healing process.

I'm glad she gave the admin an earful. I'll correct my earlier statement, too. The food service supervisor and the dietitian, whose job it is to make sure your mother's food needs were assessed and met, need to be fired. So do any staffers who told her to set aside problem food and didn't provide her with replacements or notify the kitchen that she needed something different.

Sheesh. I haven't been a nursing home cook for maybe 23? (20+) years and I'm still hitting "hulk SMASH" mode because of professional ethics. The kitchen I worked in could have fed her easily, and our staff would have taken pride in giving her good meals. Our supervisor would probably have cooked her meals personally.

She's said that (now 'if') she gets the 2nd knee done, rehab will _not_ be happening at this place. There's another place.... although really, if they could get home care started here from the get-go, that would be better, IMNSHO.

*nods* Home care is a good choice. I hope that if she opts for the second surgery, she's allowed to choose home care.

Me too. The commute to work on her hip/back would be shorter as well :D

That's been a definite plus for me, although I'm no longer used to doing massage daily, so I'm paying for it right now... well, plus getting her onto a proper table isn't going to happen right away, so I'm making the best of the situation, and adapting stance better as I go along. My niece Beth has been doing most of the dietary stuff and has gotten pretty good at it since she and Chris moved here this past summer. They'll be moving this winter, but just down the road.

Glad you're getting a chance to do some massage work, although sorry it's costing you. Hope things even out to make it more positive. *hugs*

Thanks :) I think it will, over time. I upped the reps on some of my exercises, which seems to be helping some.

*hugs*
