First day of the month :)

Saturday past we went to Boston to watch the Chinese martial arts tournament -- both internal and external forms were there: tai chi, push hands, wushu, traditional kung fu, some type of padded combat. The organizers underestimated attendance and participation, so it was a bit crowded and parking was a pain. First time for this event here, so they just didn't think there would be that many people; they didn't take into account that there really aren't any other competitions of this type in the Northeast, so a lot of martial artists who live here descended on the place -- over 400 participants!

We were there to observe, and support our school's three entrants, Sijye Jess, Sihing Phil, and Rachel. They all did well. Phil had to do his staff form twice, because the judges decided it was wushu (new), not traditional. Not a lot of adult women, especially compared to the men. Sijye didn't get to do her sword form until almost the end of the tournament because of all the men competing. L and I are debating the possibility of competing next year. We would both be in the intermediate 35+ category. Well, I don't know about competing, but I am trying to improve and practice more anyway, so we'll see. We won't do the combat stuff though -- too stylized.

Sunday morning we celebrated at the Sunwheel, which was good. Sunny, not too hot, hawks to keep us company, and more.

After that we went to the kung fu school to shampoo the rugs there. Took a few short breaks to run through the new part of the sword form, then when it was all done we went to Whole Paycheck and got some lunch and a few supplies for us and for choir practice. Can't shop there often, but they do have a totally awesome uncured salami there. We picked one of those up for snacks.

Choir practice was a leisurely affair, with b-day cards for ellid (early, so you haven't missed her birthday!), and then worked on a few pieces. We are now officially all the way through Tallis' O Lord, In Thee Is All My Trust. Todd was kind enough to sing along on the soprano during parts practice, but I held my own during all-parts :) The other regular sopranos are on vacation.

Looking at more changes to the diet. Time to take off some more weight. Simple and complex carbs (sugars and starches) will be very limited. Won't be starting it quite full-on, as I just bought some skyrr, before I read about yogurt not being on the acceptable list (for the beginning part of the diet). At least it's plain, so there's that.

Continuing to work on stabilizing and strengthening core, hips, knees.

MIL is having vertigo issues again this week. Hopefully will be resolved soon.

Peas and other things need harvesting. It's that time :)

Happy Lughnasad!
