Class last night was pretty good. We got to work on forms for a decent amount of time, and Phil and Ras both worked with our group (gold sashes working on Cannon). Got some more of the detail and finer points worked out for what we know so far, which was excellent. Makes for better practice outside class.
Finally let my mom know last night that L and I are learning kung fu. She was trying to reconcile kung fu with druidry, which was kind of interesting. Our school is really into promoting good health and fitness, reducing one's impact on the environment, and being active in the community though, so it does go together in that respect. I joked about how I'll be better able to protect the trees ;)
The one aspect that bothers me is that we're driving more than we used to, because the classes are down in the valley. But there isn't a closer place really. Oh, there's an instructor up in Charlemont, but that isn't really any closer to us, not substantially so. But right now, fitness is a priority for us and stuff we were doing on our own wasn't quite sufficient. Kung fu really conditions your whole body. Also, beats going to a gym any day. I tried that once with a friend who was going, but it bored me silly in no time flat. And of course, the better shape we're in and the healthier we are, the less dependent we'll be on modern medicine, which is fine by me. Medications place a big strain on the environment, from production to shipping to disposal, so the less we contribute to that, the better. I'm especially aware of this at the moment because my triglycerides are too high and the doctor says I have to lose some weight in the next few months and then we'll test again. Of course one doesn't lose weight just through exercise, so the diet is being watched as well, but exercise does help the body process things more properly, and can help with things other than losing weight.
