Veteran's Day and the U.S. Military
Nov. 11th, 2007 09:54 pmFirst, I honor the service of my father in WWII, my brother Kent although he didn't serve overseas, my friend
gwynt_y_storm who served many years in several places, and all the other worthy folks who have served in defense of freedom, not only from the U.S. but other countries like Canada, the U.K., and France as well.
Second. My father, who was a minister before he went into social work, would be greatly distressed to read about what is apparently happening in the U.S. military today: http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2007/11/08/5093/ He went to war to protect our nation, our freedom, our constitution.

Date: 2007-11-12 03:10 pm (UTC)Both the government and various parts of the armed forces are having problems, which are becoming endemic to the whole system. Battles are still being fought here at home, like the right for pagans to have the circumscribed star on their tombstones.
But the stories we've been hearing about the quality of some of the training have been distressing too. I worry for the safety of our folks overseas not just from combat but from lack of proper training. The stories we were hearing from a young man who's currently in ROTC training are terrifying -- those who learn to think during the training are the ones who likely will live -- and hopefully can pass on their experience and understanding of things to their fellows.
