Ladybugs

I forgot to mention that we have ladybugs. Mostly they are outside the house.... Generally this is the time of year when they try to come indoors, and I've noticed this in Holyoke for years. But here we have many, many more of them, so many that they are on every side of the farmhouse, with at least a few on most of the windows. Poor things are trying to find a safe place to stay, but the house isn't it as there's no food for them in here. Caught one resting on my dresser this morning and put it out on the front porch.

Ladybugs can be a very good thing- the eat things like aphids and other plant pests. We get swarms of them coating the windows every fall and find several here in the apartment. I let them go to work feasting on any white flies or so on that my plants sometimes pick up.

On a different level, ladybugs can be seen as messengers to "let go and let God"- or to release your worry and enjoy life. Make room in the day for meditations or spiritual devotions to hear what guidance you are receiving more clearly

Oh yes, of course we're glad they're around here to eat aphids and such. Right now though, there really isn't much of anything for them to eat in the apartment. The plants are all clean, and they don't seem interested in the few fruit flies that came in with us having all the doors open for moving. I'm doing my best to make sure there isn't anything for the flies to eat, and seem to be succeeding with that.

Went for a lovely if somewhat taxing walk on the hillside. Easy to take time to remember and commune with nature -- especially when it reminds you by lighting up the window (by the PC right now) with gold and green leafy light :)

I've noticed a fair number of ladybugs up here, too. One even sat on me while I was putting the laundry out on the line today, so I carefully put it onto one of the plants, and hope 'she' survives.

Later today I'll be cutting several of the herbs which have run rampant, and drying them in brown paper bags for the winter - both curly and flat-leaf parsley, thyme, oregano and winter savory - but I'm not sure what to do with the crop of lemon balm which is taking over one of my herb beds beside the side door...
