Yeah, it sure is! I picked up the site from steamfashion. I haven't joined it but it's been interesting checking out some of the posts.
I'm working on picking up some patterns finally too, although I'm not doing the bustle type of clothing -- not my thing.
Hopefully I can figure out a nice look for myself over the next year.
LOL, I know you aren't into legwarmers, but I saw a pair in a store the other day that had buttons or snaps down the side, on the bottom half of the tubes -- kinda made them look like spats.
Be wary of joining that community - it will devour your fpage! (Bustles aren't that difficult to wear or walk in, and a good corset won't be uncomfortable. Just sayin')
As for the buttoned legwarmers, I *think* I have a pattern for those. Hurrah for another damn project on my list YAY seriously, I think I'll be dead before I finish everything I want to make...
Yeah, they're pretty busy there. I think I'll just check in once in a while.
I'm not ruling out making a corset at some point... I've been working on essentially doing an unboned version, sort of a fitted vest. I got interested in doing that after making a Burgundian outfit (1490s - 1510s) -- so much more comfortable than a regular bra!
I might consider a bustle if I ever get into going to cons or maybe for a local historic thing, but my current primary aim is to re-do my everyday wardrobe, so a bustle probably isn't part of that alternate future ;)
Yay on the pattern for buttoned legwarmers! We all need Mooooore projects, bwahahahaaa
We're not very steampunk here either. The farmhouse was built in the 1800s though, so that's a good start. I lean more toward Victorian than Punk myself, and happily the Victorians liked Medieval things, so maybe if I just de-cluttered around the tech pieces like the tv and the computers and add some nice vintage accents... ah, but a lot of our furniture is inappropriate as well.
Still, de-cluttering is always a good thing, regardless of style.
