Slightly wavy hair here, but also a dry scalp and hair that tends to go flat.

The dry oatmeal scrub sounds similar to using corn meal or sawdust. Haven't tried those, but know someone who's used the corn meal. Made it easier to do medieval styles, since modern shampoos make hair too dry and slippery for the pins to hold.
